Business Planning

Being a typical solo entrepreneur and not taking my own advice re not working now and again, I have spent much of the afternoon writing out a business plan, or as most people know it totally making up a bunch of BS and hoping it hangs together into something that an investor may be interested in.
As the saying goes, “If you want to make God laugh tell him your plans:” (Couple of problems with that saying from my point of view ie the existence of a deity and the gender of that deity.)
So here I am working on a plan for a business that will function fantastically well if followed correctly. However, picking a cashflow forecast out of the air and getting someone to run with it and then having to defend the predictions in meetings could be quite funny. I know the business will work and all that needs doing is scaling up. So the idea of this business plan is to scale it up in a believable way that a sophisticated or non-sophisticated investor can understand and put their investment into.
So what turns you on when you look at a business plan? The detail, the cashflow forecasts, the largely irrelevant figures or the entrepreneur behind the idea? Do you ever do business plans yourself or are you God in the sense that you would make yourself laugh by writing one of these archaic documents? Finally what alternatives are there to business plans these days.
Oh and by the way, if you are interested and want a great business run for you for an investment of around $10,000 then get in touch. You never know this could be the most useful post you have ever read on the net.
