Obviously I don’t know about you, but I would like you to tell me in the comments all the same, but I have one of those terribly addictive personalities. I start something and then I must finish it. Therefore for me there is no gaming on the computer because a whole day could disappear, I only play on the Wii when accompanied so I won’t be the first to get bored but when one person gets bored the rest of us can stop too, I hardly drink, have never smoked and most importantly of all these days I live in a country where there are no betting shops and I have never really started with the online betting stuff.
You see if I did there would be no end to it, I don’t play Tetris, Pacman, World of Warcraft or any other of the time killers out there because they would simply leech my life away.
The point is I am the perfect specimen to be an entrepreneur because I have the idea and get to work on it. This has meant at times I disappointment when I actually flog a particular dead horse for far, far too long but in general it means that if something has potential I tend to see it through and make a success of it.
I was thinking of this today when I read an article about getting addicted to a numbers version of Tetris. The writer in the Guardian was a woman! (Link below) I didn’t think women were as obsessively compulsive and anally retentive as I have always seen myself and 99% of other blokes I know, so to say the least I was surprised.
Now here I am writing this during a Pomodoro on a metro in Valencia. I have worked out that I have 29 minutes from one stop to another so a couple of articles can be started to be edited later rather than sitting here watching the World I have seen a hundred times before passing by.
Here’s the kicker though.
I guess I am getting addicted to these Pomodoro sessions even. But guess what? It is a decent sort of addiction because at the end of the session I have a feeling of achievement rather than that old feeling of self loathing and stupidity after wasting the last of my change on a one armed bandit or by a quick trip into the betting shop or onto the XBox, Nintendo or whatever.
What’s your personality type or disorder? Do you see your traits and act on making them better or do you let them get the better of you? Let us know in the comments and remember that if you put your name @ your website you get a backlink to your website (As long as I approve your comment of course)
