Life is simple if you make it that way. To start up a business online you need very little really. A lot of enthusiasm, more than a little knowledge and some basics of putting together a website. However if you really want to get ahead there are various things that you need to know and various tools that is advantageous to have. Let’s look at them in turn over the next few posts on the blog here.
Firstly you need an idea for starting up a business online of course. What inspires you? What isn’t going to bore you in six months time? Can you really write about or promote Ballet Shoes? How much can you actually say about the subject? Are you willing to make an investment in time and possibly money in order to test a market? I have always found that the best way to get started in anything is to become obsessive about it. If it is something that is going to work I will remain obsessed by it even after the initial push and enthusiasm has worn off. Without this enthusiasm and burning desire to actually take something through to the end a project can really be dropped much too early. Success on the internet can be instant but generally it is a slow burner, the hockey stick curve of success.
Starting off on something is the most difficult thing and starting off without a clear plan in mind leaves a void further down the line. I started seriously in the online World after a football accident, as many of you will already know if you are a regular reader here. Sitting at home contemplating 12 weeks doing not much can be a great motivator. I used that time being obsessive about the learning needed to succeed online and it has taken time but the education I have received in the year and a half since then has meant that I wake up every day enthused about what I want, need and have to do.
Now starting up an online business can be done in your spare time of course. It can be done full time and you can even take on a currently functioning online business and make it better, if you are willing to invest some money even better. You can buy websites on Flippa that are already making money. The returns on investment can be many multiples of your original investment in just a couple of years. However that is not the starting point I am suggesting here.
First learn. Second implement.
Don’t get paralysed in the analysis, just get down to some work and see how it works out for you. If it doesn’t then imagine what you have learnt in the meantime.
In our next post we will look at the knowledge and how to acquire it for free if you don’t already have it and then we will move onto the tools that will help you move things along rapidly if you have a little money to invest because I have found all of them to be absolutely indispensable when moving my online businesses forward.
