French Road Signs

French Road Signs

I have driven about 5000km this week. After a couple of false starts and yes the second one was because we had forgotten the passports, good job we remembered only twenty minutes from home and not at the border, a three day journey to get to the UK and a quicker two day journey to get back happened. In that time I got to know my eldest daughter more just as she goes away to University. I got to understand the hate I have for roundabouts, see my previous post here, and I found that miles go slower than kilometres.

In the last twelve months I have been to the UK more than at any time for about ten years. Things have changed and it is only travelling through the country that you recognise the changes because being seen from a distance, Spain, things don’t change. My hometown Widnes is now a plethora (Yes “is” not “has”) of pound stores and bargain shops. Liverpool has changed beyond recognition as has Manchester and I realised that I don’t know so much about the places and the country when in the past I knew so much.

I devirtualised (Desvirtualizar in Spanish) a few people in the UK and it was great to meet so many people on the same wavelength and interested in the same things. Old friends were met and life was taken up as if we had never been away, that is the beauty of social networks but more of that in a later post. And I discovered the fantastic Weatherspoons if only for the free wifi, cheap breakfasts and Crabbies alcoholic Ginger beer, and yes I did bring some back to Spain with me, the ginger beer not the breakfasts.

So back to work and life starts again here with a totally different style. One person less here and a new dynamic in the house. My smallest one had even learnt to swim in the week I have been away!
