I was inspired to write this by the Saturday Discussion over at Mike’s Life. Mac or PC? It got me thinking.

I am currently celebrating, and yes that is the right word, celebrating, just to repeat, getting a Macbook rather than the PC desktop I had before. First a little bit of background. As you might know in November 2008 I had a little accident playing football so I started to teach myself internet marketing while convalescing at home. I became increasingly frustrated at how slow and unresponsive the computer was and the constant recommendation to go Mac, yes Ed Dale I am looking at you. Anyway the final nail in the coffin of my PC came by the way of a git of a virus called Brontok. Basically it wiped my had drive of any usability although I was able to rescue the majority of the data. This coincided with Media Markt having a “day when we pay your VAT”, effectively meaning a 16% reduction in the price of everything. Ally this to the fact I was buying the new equipment for the company when the VAT can be offset against earnings then 32% off a Mac became a no brainer.

Our Macs

What has happened in the meantime and how?

1) My presence in YouTube has increased exponentially. The videos I make have the effect of making my real estate company stand out from anyone in the space in Valencia and possibly Spain. Why? iMovie and Screenflow

2) My blogging has become a lot more focussed and prolific. Why? Pomodoro and Ommwriter

3) I am rather omnipresent in social media networks. How? Google Reader and Posterous

4) I have various websites in various niches that are now doing well. Why? 30DC

5) Everything I do takes about half the time it used to take on a PC. Why? Enjoyment, it is just fun doing it on the Mac and the fact that everything works a lot quicker means I don’t spend half my life waiting for programs to open and things to happen when you press on buttons that don’t respond quick enough

6) I write and make a lot more videos now. Why? Because I have people spurring me on and a community who expect it.

7) I have done, or am doing, various contracts for social media integration and visibility for companies to increase their brand awareness online. Without my Mac I would not do this because it wouldn’t be fun.

How do you use your Mac or PC? Have you changed and what happened with you did? And finally, and possibly a question that will have no positive responses, has anyone ever changed from Mac to PC for the better?

PS None of the apps or links above cost anything and none are affiliate links because it is all free. (Except Screenflow which you pay for)

And PPS. The picture is of our Macs. My daughter got herself a Mac too but as she never tires of reminding me hers is a Macbook Pro whereas mine is just a Macbook
