The brushed aluminum back of the iPad Wi-Fi

I have just been tweeting with a friend of mine online (@lisahartwell and you should follow her especially if you need a voiceover for any video) telling her about the succes of my daughter in selling her website and making a tidy profit on it. It came out of the “How is your daughter going to pay her way through University?” question. The idea being that she can make websites and sell them of course. The comparison I made was with the amount of work that goes into making a website once you know how to do it compared with how long you spend working a shift at MacDonalds or Asda to make beer money.

Publicity

Publicity?

So look at it from this point of view. You get up late in the morning or early in the afternoon, after all you are a student, go to your one lecture for that day then mooch around the coffee shop for a time. You leave at around 4pm because your shift stacking shelves at Asda, or heaven forbid Aldi, starts at five. Six hours later you run out to get last orders in and then collapse into bed shattered.

Compare that with dragging yourself out of bed and shuffling off to your one lecture. Hanging around the coffee shop with your mates and getting out your iPad bought through the proceeds of your last site auction, quickly knocking off a couple of articles for a couple more websites and preparing them for sale through social networking and small monetization, adsense etc… Buying a new domain to prepare tomorrow and selling the site on Flippa. Going home at around 5pm after another coffee, watching a useless episode of Nieghbours or Home and Away, (Students still do that right?), making something to eat, probably spag bol and then messing around on the iPad watching lolcats and other such useless things whilst researching markets using Market Samurai before nipping out to catch last orders.

I know which I would prefer.

If you really want to know how to have more of the latter then check out our Domaining chapter from the Bootstrapping Book. You can get it for free from the link. The book has a lot more ways of making pocket money that are a lot les onerous than stacking shelves and paper rounds!
