I have added a cut little logo into this post. You can get more logos for free to put on your site at Twitterlogo.org The question should always be why are you going to follow someone on Twitter? (Just click on it to follow me)
Now if you look in my sidebar you will see that I have a twitter icon for you to follow me but if you follow that you are following @grahunt, my personal Twitter acount. The follow for this site is @e_solo and as it has been up for less time it has fewer followers of course. If you are following both you will find that many of my tweets are repeated on both, oh the power of Tweetdeck, because they are to do with Spain and Entrepreneurship at the same time. However the @e_solo account is much more focussed on comments from this site, entrepreneurial ideas in general and business.
Now I could be just pimping out affiliate links and stuff that might sell but I don’t believe in doing that although there are many that do (I do actually recommend stuff at times and my own products but only if I know they are rather useful). I prefer to engage with people through my twitter accounts. Twitter can be seen as a broadcast medium or a place for interactions and depending on your online style and personality you can use it however you find more comfortable.
I have been using twitter for a couple of years and really it has now taken the place of online forums, there are now fewer blog comments in most people’s blogs and even Facebook is seeing the effect of Twitter as it is much more immediate and easy to do.
The questions you should ask if you are on Twitter and want people to follow you are the following;
What reasons are you giving your followers for actually following you? What value are you putting out there so that others will follow you? Why do you want others to follow you?
If you are not answering these questions in a positive way then think about whether you should approach Twitter in a different way.
The questions you should ask if you are thinking of following someone are:
What information are they giving me? Is this entertaining? Will this be a timesuck? Will I be overwhelmed by information if I follow this person? Can I interact with the person behind the tweets? Will the information be useful to me in any way?
If the answers are a lot of no’s then don’t follow.
