Some call it linkbait and some call it creativity. I call it a lot of fun. Last week I made a Hitler Downfall Parody Video. If you don’t know anything about this particular internet meme then the story is this. There is a film called Downfall which plots Hitler’s downfall. It is a German film and totally stunning with an amazingly convincing performance in the lead role.
Anyway, a couple of years ago somebody overdubbed some false subtitles and it was quite funny. Since then loads of people have made their own Hitler Downfall videos. I decided to make my own based on the Thirty Day Challenge being ended by Ed Dale. (If you are into internet marketing you will find this hilarious. If not you may not get it)
So how to make your own Hitler video.
1) Get the original film scene (Hitler in the Bunker) without subtitles (Search on Google)
2) Play it using quick time and a screen capture just to make sure you have got it all (because many of the files available online are not complete) I used Screenflow to capture it.
3) If you have a Mac you can use iMovie or Screenflow to import the film. (I used iMovie to do the work after exporting from Screenflow.)
4) You need a script. My script was done on the hoof as I was aware of how the scene goes from watching too many versions of it. It helped to have a bottle of beer and some red wine around.
5) Make sure you get some injokes in there to please your target audience.
6) Put some starting titles and end titles into it.
7) Upload using TubeMogul to various video sharing sites
8) Get really disappointed when YouTube rejects it because it has copyright material, the original film, in it. (See below in the articles noted)
9) Get the embed code from Metacafe or Daily Motion because they are still allowing it
10) Place it into your blog.
You can see my Hitler video here in Entrepreneur Solo.
Oh and by the way. Thousands of views of the video already and just one negative comment. How can you use this internet meme to your advantage? And more importantly how can you use video marketing in your own business?
