For the longest time now, the last few months to be exact, I have been trying to drag an iPhone4 out of the hands of Vodafone and into my grateful palms. My Blackberry is dying fast. Every day it decides it wants a quick siesta, after all it is in Spain and when in Spain… I get the coldest unblinking stare of the egg timer as the phone gives up.

You reset a Blackberry by turning it off and turning it on again of course. A Blackberry switch off involves taking the back off and the battery out, because the keys become unresponsive, then putting it back together. Then you wait. Then you wait some more and finally it comes back on.

So last week I went to England and allied to this was the fact that the wifi connection in my Dad’s place wasn’t working. Internet in general was about as quick as that you can find in the middle of the Sahara. My daughter meanwhile got a new iPhone4 for her 18th. She said I could have her Androind phone, an HTC Magic, which she would no longer need being in the UK and not Spain. My SIM card worked and I was off with a decent Smartphone.

The six hours I spent setting it up were painful, I do a lot of stuff on my phone, audioboo, Google reader, analytics etc…so that I can run my business even when standing in queues. I then started back on the trip to Spain.

In the UK and France the data element of the phone wasn’t working so I took it on the chin and waited until I got back to Spain when suddenly it sprang into life. Brilliant.

The next day I started using it and it was a joy if slightly difficult to get used to the screen keyboard as opposed to the keys of a Blackberry. I spotted a snake and recorded an audioboo about it while driving. Very cool.

Come the next morning and the screen is black.

So, back to my old not so faithful Blackberry which now treats me like a jilted lover by ignoring me at regular intervals, back to the egg timer and shouting at Vodafone to give me the iPhone they promised me in July

Now you know why I am taking longer to do things recently. I am technologically challenged
