If you are from Europe, Spain is close by. Any specifics you need done or found out can be part of a brief holiday. From New Zealand, things get much more complicated, and I have been discovering this time and again.
Our biggest hurdle to date in our planning had been determining how much money we will actually need. As a freelancer, juggling money is second nature, and if I need more money, I can usually put together some venture or other over time to inject some cash.
I decided from a very young age that I didn’t want to live in the UK and Spain seemed a rather natural place to come and live as it was close enough to what I used to call home to not feel too isolated yet exotic enough to be different.
“I’m sorry, we’ve just changed all the policies around that, you’ll have to call back in a few weeks” said the person at the Spanish embassy, promptly hanging up.
Great. I should be used to this by now, as it seems every time I get to grips with some aspect of the big move to Spain, someone changes the rules back in Spain!
