Workflows and Getting Things Done

Have you ever started doing some work and then a mail notification comes in and it looks important so you click on it. Or you have just started something important and the phone rings and you have to answer the phone right! Right? Erm no, actually very wrong!

It is rare for interruptions to be important, or rather to be as important as we perceive them to be. Interruptions are usually little more than an opportunity to prevaricate a bit and stop doing what we need to be doing. And when I say “need” to be doing that is exactly what I mean, the most important thing at this moment in time.

So How Will I Spend My 25 Minutes A Day?

A single Pomodoro. When I opted out of the virtual life last week I asked people here on the blog, on Twitter and Facebook what should I do for 25 minutes a day, one Pomodoro session, in order to do something different. There were some great suggestions, some frankly weird ones and some, let’s say, interesting ones.

Ever Used CFT?

CFT is an acronym for Critical Focus Time. When I am creating content for this blog or any of the others I have, when I am going through the sales process with a client I can maybe consider that CFT, when I am writing, when I am making a video, making audio or doing anything that makes the online presence greater then that is critical focus time.

Opting Out Of The Vicarious Life

On Twitter I was told that the only reason I don’t watch X Factor and other such rubbish is because I live in Spain and cannot see it. My answer can be seen here:

“@microedge @LisaHartwell I am 43 Steve. I may only have 43 more yrs. Watching reality TV isn’t one of the things I intend to do in life ;-)

More and more I live a virtual life using the Mac for many things every day including entertainment, communication and work but I don’t do the vicarious life, ie live my life through the success or failures of others.

Is It A Bird? Is It A Plane? No It's A Pomodoro

A few weeks ago I made an idiot of myself on Twitter by referring as an authority who speaks Spanish to a Pomodoro as an apple. Obviously it is a tomato, an Italian tomato. But enough levity (I know! You probably had to be there)

On Being Handed My Backside on a Plate

I do a lot of work, a LOT of work. Did I get that through to you because this is important I do a lot of work. Nevertheless I woke up this morning to find that @preneur had “Liked” a YouTube video called “Going Pro”. Well I thought that while making breakfast and getting the packed lunches ready for the kids I would have a look.
