There's Traffic and Then There's TRAFFIC

You may have seen Mike CJ’s awesome post on this site about how to deal with a traffic spike (If not check it out here) Well I am going to tell you more about the trafic spike as today is the reason we got it.

The General Strike in Spain today is not the 1929 general strike. It is not even the General Strike that paralysed Asturias when I lived there in the 1990′s where 100% of people followed it. However it is a highly searched for term on Google as people try to find out more about it. The question is though why are they trying to find out more?

How to Deal With a Traffic Spike on Your Website

Last week on a couple of blogs I suddenly noticed a huge traffic spike, much more traffic than expected on a couple of blogs. I had a quick look at analytics and discovered that it was all to do with the general stirke in Spain on Wednesday the 29th of September. Keyword ranking for that term had gone crazy as had searches as people due to be flying out or already here wanted to know what would be happening.

Why Aweber Makes A Huge Difference?

I am not going to coat this with any sugar. If you don’t have a mailing list you don’t have a business. If you have a business but haven’t thought of creating a mailing list then you have seriously missed the biggest trick. Today’s post is all about a real world example of creating a mailing list and what it can do for you. In the internet marketing world you are told that the money is in the list. In the real estate world it is imperative that the list is maintained and fed regularly with solid advice. So let’s go back to basics.

Taking Time Out On Holiday In Asturias

This blog was very quiet last week as I went on holiday with the family. Asturias was our destination in the north of Spain where we were looking for a bit of rain and a lot of food. Just a quick post to say we are back and to show you a few Asturian “delicacies”.

Progress on The Bootstrapping Book and an Interview

As you will know if you have been following the blog I am co-writing a book at the moment. Tentatively called “The Bootstrapping Book – How to start up a business from nothing” (Catchy title I know) it comprises ten chapters with various ideas for getting started in your own business without having to buy stock, rent a place to conduct your business or, in essence, put money down.

If I Were In Charge... Spanish Civil Servants Beware

I have had one of those mornings where you finish up with the blood pressure through the roof and teeth ground down through so much gnashing of them throughout the morning.

Time, it just slips away doesn't it.

I’m back. It’s been a while, and despite all good intentions to write a post every Sunday, the last month or so has been a mess of scheduling issues.

My Other Blog's Birthday or Milestone

I don’t know whether it is a birthday or a milestone but the next post I put up on Houses For Sale In Spain will be the 500th post on the site. To celebrate I am going to eat a cake! However for my clients it will mean a huge difference because there is going to be an announcement that will surprise and delight in equal measure.

Opting Out Of The Vicarious Life

On Twitter I was told that the only reason I don’t watch X Factor and other such rubbish is because I live in Spain and cannot see it. My answer can be seen here:

“@microedge @LisaHartwell I am 43 Steve. I may only have 43 more yrs. Watching reality TV isn’t one of the things I intend to do in life ;-)

More and more I live a virtual life using the Mac for many things every day including entertainment, communication and work but I don’t do the vicarious life, ie live my life through the success or failures of others.

“I’m sorry, we’ve just changed all the policies around that, you’ll have to call back in a few weeks” said the person at the Spanish embassy, promptly hanging up.

Great. I should be used to this by now, as it seems every time I get to grips with some aspect of the big move to Spain, someone changes the rules back in Spain!
